While the first week in the New Year ushers in the attitude of a Fresh Start; why not put that attitude toward the environment that surrounds you every day… Your Home!
In the spirit of New Years week, the Clearlice blog will share a 2 part post series on cleaning up your home for a fresh start in 2012.
This part 1 post will include tips for the outside of the home, while part 2 will take care of tips for the inside.
A Fresh Look
Outside Your Home
- Tour the home exterior and grounds. Make a list of any needed seasonal maintenance.
- Schedule a family garage clean-out. Create efficient storage for sporting goods, camping equipment, recreational vehicles, and garden tools.
- Inspect, clean and repair outdoor furniture.
- Inspect the roof for winter damage: leaks, missing or broken shingles or tiles. Arrange for any needed repairs early; A good contractor can be hard to find during the summer season.
- Pick a sunny day to scrape, prime and paint peeling spots on trim or woodwork. You’ll protect wood against the upcoming Spring and Summer heat and/or moisture – also you will prevent a more difficult paint job come fall.
- Clear away any remaining dead foliage and weeds from beds and lawn.
- Begin major Spring landscaping projects. Spring’s the time to put in shrubs and trees, but check with your local extension office for specific planting recommendations for your area.
- Enjoy how fresh your home looks in 2012 by sipping a tasty beverage outside!
This Fresh Start to your home will help keep these great New Year vibes around well into spring!
